Colorado spirit
Are you Colorado proud? Meet other like-minded Coloradans at History Colorado Center during its new adults-only COmingle event. On the second Thursday of the month through June, indulge your affinity for Colorado with out-of-the-box activities, games, food and plenty of Colorado spirit (and spirits at a cash bar). On March 13, the theme is “Colorado Is The Best.” From 6 to 9 p.m. train with the best ski jumpers, experience the biggest dust storm in Colorado history and take your circa-1920s yearbook picture. Cost is $10, which covers all activities and admission. Buy tickets online or at the door.
Redemption values
In conjunction with its summer staging of Jake Heggie’s opera “Dead Man Walking,” Central City Opera has created the Prisons, Compassion and Redemption Project. The first event is a book signing with Sister Helen Prejean, left, author of “Dead Man Walking,” followed by a free screening of the Oscar-winning film based on her memoir. Bring your own book or buy one on site. If you haven’t seen the film, which stars Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn, be sure to have some tissues handy. The insightful evening starts at 6 p.m. on March 12 at the Wolf Theatre in the Jewish Community Center (350 S. Dahlia St.)
Fishy fun
Hook up a good time with your family. Kids can polish their fishing skills for free on March 15 and 16 at Bass Pro Shops. From noon to 5 p.m., little anglers can cast their fishing lines in a stocked indoor pond, enjoy two cool workshops and fish around a craft projects table. Plus, they’ll take home a free 4-by-6 photo and Keep America Fishing certificate. The first 150 children who complete a punch card each day get a free fishing tackle box. Bass Pro Shops is located in Northfield at Stapleton just north of I-70 at the Quebec/Northfield exit.
