DENVER—Lawmakers advanced a bill that would allow Colorado charter schools to hire armed security.
The state House Education Committee passed the bill on an 11-1 vote Monday. Currently, school districts can hire security officers to carry concealed handguns on school grounds if the officer has a valid permit. The pending proposal, which has bipartisan support, would grant the same authority to charter schools.
The bill will now be heard by the full House.
