ASPEN, Colo.—The Snowmass Village Town Council will wait until April to next discuss its lease with an Aspen dog-sledding operator facing animal cruelty charges.
The Aspen Times ( ) reported Monday that Town Attorney John Dresser has repeatedly advised delay, fearing a council discussion could compromise Dan MacEachen’s trial. MacEachen’s Krabloonik dog-sledding operation is on Snowmass Village property.
The next court date for MacEachen, who faces eight misdemeanor animal-cruelty charges in a case pending since December, is April 15. The Times says that at the most council recent meeting, Dresser advised councilors to discuss a plan of action on the issue at its next meeting on April 21.
MacEachen has denied wrongdoing. Activists have been pushing councilors for a public discussion of his kennel operation.
