, in classic Drake-fashion, has been gushing this week in a series of new tracks. dropped jabs at Chance the Rapper and Jay Z, along with loving references to “Hunger Games” and Jennifer Lawrence. Today, yet another new Drake song, and this one’s a pulsing diary entry about relationships.
“Days in the East” is produced by PARTYNEXTDOOR and 40. The dark and slow moving R&B track draws comparisons to Miguel and The-Dream.
Talking about up and down relationships and waking up in Amsterdam, “Days in the East” seems to be dedicated to his confusing relationship with Rihanna.
But what’s also great about this song is that Drake describes what might be the least hip-hop scene in all of hip-hop:
“I remember one night I went to Erykah Badu’s house. She made tea for me. We talked about love and what life could really be for me. She said when that shit is real you just know. And I was thinking about you, you already know.”
Sure this sounds more like English royalty rather than hip-hop royalty, but how awesome would it be to call up Erykah Badu whenever you have girl problems? She sounds like the rap equivalent of Mrs. Garrett on “The Facts of Life.”
