A man was found guilty of a 2001 sexual assault in Denver this week based on DNA evidence and Katie’s Law.
Eddie Simon, 46, was convicted by a Denver jury on two counts of sexual assault, according to a Denver district attorney’s office media release.
Simon was convicted of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old woman at knifepoint Feb. 24, 2001, in a remote area of the old Lowry Air Force Base site.
In 2013, Simon was arrested on a felony drug charge.
His DNA was taken at that time, pursuant to Katie’s Law, and he was linked to the 2001 sex-assault case.
Simon will be sentenced June 16 and faces a possible “intermediate-to-life” term, the DA’s office said.
