On June 19 Rolling Stone will run a “Studio Notes” piece about ‘ ’s highly delayed and anticipated solo album. But today, Wilson shared an excerpt of the interview on his official web page. And although Brian Wilson isn’t exactly a 2014 chart topper, the artists appearing on his new album definitely are.
Wilson tells Rolling Stone that Kacey Musgraves, Zooey Deschanel, Frank Ocean and Lana Del Rey will all appear, in some form or another, on his album. Of course, following the announcement that he’ll be working with a slew of pop stars whose entire careers were likely shaped by the Beach Boys, his fans lashed out at the collaborations.
The always eccentric Wilson immediately addressed the haters
To my fans: it kind of bums me out to see some of the negativity here about the album I’ve been working so hard on. In my life in music, I’ve been told too many times not to fuck with the formula, but as an artist itap my job to do that – and I think I’ve earned that right.
I’m really proud of these new songs and to hear these great artists sing on them just blows me away. I love what we’ve done.
I would think that after making music for more than fifty years, my fans would understand that I’ll always do whatap in my heart – and I think thatap why you are my fans. So letap just wait until the album comes out because I think you just might dig it as much as I do.
Love and Mercy, Brian
