Is the relationship between Walt Weiss and assistant GM Bill Geivett becoming strained? (Denver Post file photo)

By now you have probably read, or at least heard about, that the Rockies organization has reached the “breaking point.”

Here’s part of what Rosenthal wrote:

” … Manager Walt Weiss has grown frustrated due to his philosophical differences with (assistant GM Bill) Geivett and the team’s unusual front office structure, major-league sources say.

Weiss, who took over as manager for the 2013 season, signed a three-year extension last October through 2016. He is not looking to leave the Rockies, sources say. But his dissatisfaction reflects the growing sense in the industry that the organization is reaching a breaking point.”

Given the Rockies woes, this is not a surprising turn of events. After all, the club is now 40-59, tied with the Rangers for the worst record in the majors, and on pace to win just 66 games.

I have written that in the front office. Thatap what I’ve been told by Rockies insiders. But if the losing continues at this pace, all bets are off.

As for the Weiss-Geivett relationship, here’s what I know: Their personal relationship is in pretty good shape and they do communicate. In fact, the two men like and respect each other. Furthermore, Geivett does not dictate the daily lineup or have any hand in the in-game moves by Weiss.

That said, I do think that Weiss, much like Jim Tracy before him, feels restricted by the current structure of the Rockies. In my opinion, Weiss feels handcuffed, particularly by the club’s philosophy of limiting starters to around 100 pitches. Given how poorly the bullpen has performed, the restrictions seem pointless.

Stay tuned.
