U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman, a Republican running for re-election in the 6th Congressional District in suburban Denver, today joined the masses of celebrities, public figures and regular folks who have taken the “ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.”

You probably know the drill: The person who accepts the challenge gets a bunch of ice water dumped over his or her head, and then nominates a few more people to do the same, usually within 24 hours, or donate to ALS research. The condition is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

In this case, a dark T-shirt-clad Coffman nominated only his challenger, Democrat Andrew Romanoff, to subject himself to the cold ice bath “in the spirit of forming a united front to fight this disease,” or donate $100 to the . Coffman also has pledged to donate $1 for every “like” his Facebook post gets.

A call to Romanoff spokeswoman Denise Baron was not immediately returned Wednesday afternoon.
