ARLINGTON, Texas — I told Cornell Green that I watched him play cornerback for the Dallas Cowboys.
“Well, you must old then,” Green said laughing.
Yes, Cornell. I’m old enough to have seen him play cornerback in the 1960s and safety in the 1970s. It’s a shame he hasn’t joined his cornerback partner Mel Renfro in the Cowboys’ Ring of Fame.
In 1981, former Cowboy halfback Dan Reeves became the Broncos’ head coach and he brought Green with him to serve as a scout. Green has been a Broncos scout ever since. Living in the Dallas area, Green attended the Broncos’ preseason game against the Cowboys here Thursday night at AT&T Stadium.
“I’m a Bronco,” said Green, 74. “I’ve been working for the Broncos for 35 years.
