
A dog-and-sheep show
It’s the herding-dog Olympics in Meeker Sept. 3-7 as 145 handler/dog teams from the U.S. and Canada compete at the 28th annual Meeker Sheepdog Championship Trials. The sheepdog herding competition, worth a $22,000 purse, also features an artisan craft fair, exhibits, pancake breakfasts, demonstrations, seminars, music and food. Tickets vary. It’s time for those annual end-of-summer doggie dips in neighborhood pools — here are a few:
Sept. 1: “Dog Days of Summer” 4 to 6 p.m. at LaMont Does Outdoor Pool, 500 S. Boulder Road in Lafayette. $5 per dog and all dogs must have a current rabies tag. 303-665-0469
Sept. 6: Freedom Service Dogs of America presents the seventh annual “Doggie Plunge” 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Pirates Cove Aquatic Park and Belleview Park, 1225 W. Belleview Ave. in Littleton. A family festival is also included with entertainment, food trucks and pet adoptions. $15 per dog.
Sept. 6: South Suburban’s annual “Puppy Paddle,” 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Holly Pool, 6651 S. Krameria Way in Centennial. $7 in advance, $8 starting Sept. 5 and at the gate. Additional dogs in the same household are $2. 303-347-5999, sspr.org
