4) Tobacco — Sept. 12, Larimer Lounge

Electronic musician Thomas Fec returns to Denver’s Larimer Lounge on Sept. 12 in support of “Ultima II Massage,” his latest release as Tobacco. Known for sonic exploration and notoriously weird visuals (see, the ), Fec turns any show into an otherworldly experience. Fec last performed in Denver in 2013 with his other project Black Moth Super Rainbow. Ahead of the show we got about the DIY scene and fans’ interaction with his music.

3) Telluride Blues & Brews — Sept. 12-14, Town Park

Though Telluride Blues & Brews is anchored by a handful of legacy acts, itap a festival thatap rounded out by dozens of excellent smaller musicians. Shakey Graves, Bombino, Charles Bradley and local band Dragondeer are all worth showing up early to the mountain music festival. Then, of course, there’s also the legendary headliners taking the stage for the three day event at Town Park: Peter Frampton, Violent Femmes, George Clinton and Buddy Guy. Though three day VIP passes have sold out, normal three-day passes and single day tickets are available. (Three-day pass: $185, single day tickets: $65-$70, tellurideblues.com)

2) Conor Oberst — Sept. 16, Boulder Theater

Denver is among the first cities to catch Conor Oberst with his newest lineup of backing musicians. Now that Dawes — the California folk rock band that supported him on the first leg of his 2014 tour — has returned to the studio, Oberst brings a new group of musicians, including Jonathan Wilson. Oberst is touring in support of his latest solo album, “Upside Down Mountain,” which included production from Wilson. “The plus side of changing things up is new experiences and people bring their strengths to each of the new incarnations,” Oberst

1) Goldrush Music Festival — Sept. 13-14, Larimer Lounge and Meadowlark

To the average person (and even many music fans), the lineup for Denver’s Goldrush Music Festival might look like a different language — and thatap the point. Organizers for the young DIY event see it as a chance for music discovery. They aim to challenge the audience with bands, genres and sounds that listeners might not seek out on their own. So, while you likely haven’t heard of such bands as Wolf Eyes, Eric Copeland, Mount Eerie and Clipping, Goldrush has curated these performers and more into one lineup on Sept. 13-14 at Larimer Lounge and Meadowlark for you to take a chance on.
