GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) — A crack in a western Colorado bridge prompted state highway officials to temporarily close it down, which in turn forced a charter school to cancel classes.
The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reports (http://tinyurl.com/l8vpz4f ) the bridge is on Colorado 90 near Bedrock, about 50 miles south of Grand Junction and 15 miles east of the Utah state line.
Paradox Charter School canceled classes starting Wednesday because of access problems. Principal Jon Orris says the school could reopen Monday if bridge repairs are done.
State highway crews planned to repair the crack with steel plates and welds.
Inspectors spotted a crack in the steel bridge on Monday and it was closed to vehicles Tuesday. Some residents were walking across the bridge to get to their homes.
