Denver Public Works officials urge Monday commuters to take alternate routes to avoid the intersection of 1st Avenue and University Boulevard in Denver.

The intersection will be closed until Tuesday morning as crews complete construction work there.

The cross streets were first shut down Saturday night by Denver Public Works and are set to reopen at 7 a.m. Tuesday. Officials warned of anticipated “significant impacts” and urged commuters to use alternate routes.

Access to homes, businesses and the Cherry Creek Shopping Center will be maintained throughout the closure, the city said in a news release.

The closure is part of the city’s University/Josephine storm sewer and street reconstruction project, which officials say is three weeks head of schedule. The project is slated for completion by Nov. 1.

Regional Transportation District buses will be detoured through the area. Those who have questions about the public transit detours can visit for more information.
