Cheraw junior Tristan Headrick helped made Sept. 12 a memorable day for the Wolverines.
The 6-foot, 165-pounder had seven catches for 294 yards and six touchdowns as Cheraw won 77-24 over Manzanola in 6-man action, snapping a 30-game losing streak.
The last time Cheraw (2-2) had won was on Sept. 17, 2010 against South Baca.
Headrick’s performance ties the single-game state record for most touchdown receptions in a game with Lamar’s Michael Bryant, and fifth for most receiving yards in a game.
“He’s a good athlete — strong, fast,” Cheraw coach Brad Philips said. “He just got behind the defense that day.”
Headrick leads the state in receiving yards and touchdowns entering Week 5 with 818 yards and 17 TDs. His TD receptions already ties him for 12th all-time in a single season with six more games to go in the regular season.
