Colorado coffee connoisseurs propelled Denver and Boulder onto the list of based on the number of independent coffee shops per capita.

Redfin, a real estate company, and Foursquare, a geo-location mobile app company, teamed up to rate the top cities when it comes to indie coffee shops.

The Colorado cities made the list along with cities like Seattle, which started the craze for coffee.

Boulder ranked third, with the as the highest rated indie coffee shop in the area.

The company, started in 2010 in Boulder by Vajra & Cara Rich, roasts coffee in small batches using a classic Ideal Rapid coffee roaster that was built in Germany in 1929. It opened its indie coffee shop in 2011 on Pearl St.

Denver ranked fifth, with the in Curtis Park the highest rated indie coffee shop. The roasters it uses include Boxcar Coffee Roasters, Dogwood Coffee Co. and Huckleberry Roasters.

In both Colorado cities, the zip codes with the most independent coffee shops were the downtown areas, populated with large amounts office workers.

And just for kicks, Redfin and Foursquare translated the median home price in the zip codes with the number of lattes that would buy, based on $4 as the average cup of indie latte.

For Boulder, that’s $599,000 in zip code 80302 — or 149,750 lattes.

In Denver, that’s $400,000 for zip code 80202 — or 100,000 lattes.
