A 21-year-old man accused in the — a death that sent shock waves through Denver’s Montbello community — has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.
Marquise Lewis, who entered the plea Thursday morning, faces up to 40 years in prison at a Dec. 5 sentencing, the Denver district attorney’s office said.
On Aug. 30, 2013, Lewis gave Lonnie White an assault rifle and told him to shoot from the window of a moving car. White’s gunfire killed Reysean Abram, who was riding his bike home from a party.
White, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, was charged as an adult and also pleaded guilty in the case.
Before the shooting, Lewis and White had been involved in an altercation with others on the 4600 block of Eugene Way.
Abram was taken to Children’s Hospital, where he died.
A juvenile also thought to be involved in the case had charges dropped early this year.
Authorities suspect the shooting, which happened on the 4700 block of North Enid Way, was gang-related.
“I’m going to forgive Mr. White,” Reysean’s mother, Reyniko Abram, . “He don’t know my son. He don’t know me. He is a casualty of war. He was just doing what he was told to do.”
