Varlamov listed on IR on Avs’ site, FYI:

KANATA, Ontario — Getting to this beautiful arena, the “Centre Canadian Tire” it says on the side, from downtown Ottawa is like driving from Castle Rock to the Pepsi Center. I vowed to never take a taxi again, with full allegiance to Uber, a magnificent company, but there were no Ubers available after the Avalanche morning skate. So I took a cab, and it cost $23 more than the Uber that got me to the rink. To and from the exact same places, Uber was $36 (with 20 percent gratuity already included), the cab $59 (no tip). And, yes, the customer service was far better on the way out than the way back, and with Uber I didn’t have to deal with a dirty look from the driver about taking a credit card. For those that don’t know, Uber is the way to go. Why didn’t I think of this?

Most of the good stuff from the morning skate is , beginning with the long-awaited return of forward John Mitchell.

The lineup against the Senators is not set, coach Patrick Roy said, because he wants to meet with his staff and decide if Mitchell will center the fourth line or play wing on that unit. Obviously, he’s not expected to play big minutes, with tonight being his first hockey game, preseason or otherwise, since April 10. Marc-Andre Cliche is likely the scratched forward, but not sure.

The starter in goal is not yet known, either, because Semyon Varlamov has a slight groin problem, Roy said. Varlamov skated this morning and got off first, a good sign he is the starter, but Reto Berra came off soon thereafter, leaving the forwards and defensemen with nobody to shoot on. Roy said his starting goalie will be a “game-time decision.”

No other changes to the lineup, which looks like:

McGinn-Duchene-Iginla

Landeskog-O’Reilly-Everberg

Tanguay-MacKinnon-Briere

McLeod-Talbot-Mitchell

Holden-Johnson

Hejda-Barrie

Stuart-Guenin

Varly/Berra
