After having just 13 football players suit up in a 42-0 loss against Pueblo Centennial last Friday, Cheyenne Mountain has decided to forfeit its remaining games for the season.

The Indians began the year with 45 players on its varsity team, but lost the majority to a variety of factors, athletic director Kris Roberts said.

“The whole perfect storm between eligibility and injuries, kids quitting and dismissing kids from the program, we ended up Friday night with 13 kids,” Roberts said.

Cheyenne Mountain is 1-7 entering Week 9, having lost four in a row and shut out five times.

“We just felt … it wouldn’t be appropriate to continue playing varsity football,” Roberts said.

The school is considering dropping down from 4A to 3A in 2016, he added.

The story was first reported by KRDO in Colorado Springs.
