The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help identifying suspects who have been breaking vehicle windows, stealing purses and wallets and using stolen credit cards in the south metro area.
Police said in a news release that vehicle windows have been broken at churches, parks, pools, trailheads, fitness centers and other locations.
Purses, wallets, and high-end electronics have been taken from the vehicles. Credit cards from those thefts have been used at various retail outlets including The Home Depot in Morrison, said Sgt. Ron Hanavan, spokesman for Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Hanavan said there are several suspects who have broken about a dozen vehicle windows since September. He said it is possible there could be more cases.
The suspects have been targeting highly populated parking lots with vehicles that have items in plain view or concealed under a blanket or coat, Hanavan said.
Hanavan urged residents to keep valuables at home or locked inside a vehicle’s trunk. He said residents should call the police if a suspicious person is spotted in a parking lot.
Police are asking anyone who could identify the suspects to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
