Crews were expected to finish work on the University/Josephine Improvement Project on Saturday night, ending 10 months of frustration and pain for drivers in the Cherry Creek North area.

Only “very limited” activity is expected after 10 p.m., Denver Public Works said in a news release.

The project, centered on the intersection of University Boulevard and East 1st Avenue, included repaving and a new storm sewer system. It started in January and impacted an area between East 6th Avenue and Cherry Creek Drive North.

Public Works said that the project was being completed three weeks ahead of schedule.

According to Public Works, the project involved:

• 2,476 feet of storm sewer pipe installed (equivalent to 8.25 football fields)

• 8,087 feet, or about 1.5 miles, of curb and gutter constructed

• 29 new manholes, inlets, and special structures established

• 7 traffic signals and 91 pedestrian ramps replaced

• 1,175 truckloads, or 2,538 tons, of concrete poured

Meanwhile, in LoDo, 18th Street between Wynkoop and Blake streets will change from a one-way to a two-way street starting Sunday.

City officials say the change is designed to make the block more pedestrian friendly.
