BOULDER — With 13 catches Saturday, Colorado junior receiver Nelson Spruce became the school-record holder for most receptions in a season with 90.

A native of the Los Angeles area, Spruce broke the record of 83 receptions set last year by Paul Richardson, now playing for the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks.

In addition, Spruce became the eighth player in CU history to reach 1,000 yards in receptions for a season. He has 1,002 yards, with three games remaining.

CU sophomore quarterback Sefo Liufau set a school record for most completions in a season (274), breaking the record of 241 set by Joel Klatt in 2005.

Also, Shay Fields set a CU record for most receptions by a freshman in a season with 40.

Bowl hopes officially gone. Hopes were slim anyway, but with its seventh loss of the season, Colorado was mathematically eliminated from bowl contention.

“A bowl game was a goal,” sophomore running back Michael Adkins II said. “But our main goal is to win football games.”

Pac-12 wins difficult to get. Washington, led by first-year Huskies coach Chris Petersen, is still below .500 in conference games at 2-3.

“It’s so hard to win in this conference,” said Petersen, whose Boise State teams were dominant in the WAC and Mountain West. “Just look at the scores, in overtime, down to the wire. Then you go on the road and it’s even harder.”

Mullen grads meet. During the second quarter, Colorado senior linebacker Brady Daigh recorded a sack by bringing down Washington sophomore quarterback Cyler Miles.

Both played in the Denver area for Mullen High School and overlapped a couple of years there.

“Daigh said something to me after the game,” Miles said. “He said, ‘Why didn’t you throw it away?’ “

Hall of Famers honored. CU’s newly inducted Hall of Fame class was recognized at halftime of Saturday’s game: Bob Beattie (skiing), Frosty Cox (basketball), Jim Davis (basketball), Deon Figures (football), Bob Jeangerard (basketball), Linn Long (wrestling), Don Meyers (track), Herb Orvis (football) and Yvonne Scott (track).
