COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — A man who pleaded guilty to kidnapping a 14-year-old girl in 1990 has been charged with solicitation to commit murder in her slaying a year later.
The Colorado Springs Gazette reports (http://tinyurl.com/lyl7jf6 ) new charges were filed Thursday against 57-year-old Charles Stroud.
Stroud was on parole in the 1990 kidnapping case when he was re-arrested last month. It wasn’t immediately clear what led to the new arrest.
Online jail records didn’t list an attorney.
Stroud was charged with kidnapping and sexually assaulting Jessica Carpenter in December 1990. Carpenter and her boyfriend were shot to death three months later.
Stroud pleaded guilty to kidnapping in December 1991 and was sentenced to 50 years in prison. It wasn’t clear when he was paroled.
He also faces a solicitation charge in the boyfriend’s death.
