
LAKEWOOD — The last time Valor Christian lost a playoff football game, it was Halloween of 2008.
There was no scare Friday as the Eagles coasted to a 56-34 win over Pomona to advance to their third straight 5A state semifinal appearance. Senior Danny Rambo ran in two touchdowns and caught another one to lead the Eagles.
Pomona senior RB Isaac Marquez ran in four of Pomona’s touchdowns.
Valor improved its all-time playoff record to a perfect 25-0. It will take on the winner of Saturday’s Grandview and Fountain-Fort Carson game.
CLASS 5A QUARTERFINALS
Cherry Creek capitalized on a 21-point second quarter to take down Regis Jesuit 49-21.
DJ Luke led the Bruins with three touchdown runs. Quarterback Joe Caplis threw for two scores, and running back Milo Hall ran for two more.
Creek will make its first appearance in the semifinals since 2008.
The Bruins will play Ralston Valley. Andrew Wingard’s six touchdowns carried No. 1-seeded Mustangs to a 71-29 victory over No. 2 Fairview.
CLASS 4A QUARTERFINALS
No. 13 Falcon continued its Cinderella run, taking down No. 5 Pueblo South 38-17. Tied 21-all in the third quarter, Falcon scored 17 unanswered points to pull away from the Colts.
The Falcons will take on defending champion and top-seeded Pine Creek, which took down No. 8 Windsor 24-7.
On the other end of the bracket, No. 7 Longmont held off a late comeback by No. 2 Fort Collins to win 42-35. The Trojans will face the winner of Saturday’s Montrose-Broomfield game.
CLASS 3A QUARTERFINAL
Pueblo East quarterback Danny Martin ran for 191 yards and threw for 151 more while totalling four TDs to lead the No. 4-seed Eagles to a 28-14 win over No. 12 Palisade. East will face the winner of Discovery Canyon and Delta next week.
