The Denver City Council gave a green light Monday to agreements making way for a pedestrian bridge over old freight and new East Line commuter rail tracks in Denver’s River North neighborhood.
Crossing the tracks between 35th and 36th streets just south of a new station, the bridge for foot and bicycle traffic will “infuse the already vibrant RiNo Art District with more vitality,” Councilwoman Judy Montero said. The city says it’s spending about $4.5 million, including nearly $1.4 million kicked in by the Regional Transportation District.
The , will connect the redeveloping neighborhood on the downtown side of the tracks to Globeville and other neighborhoods in an area lacking many street connections. Plans include some new sidewalks.
RTD . The transit agency has been building a second pedestrian bridge to the north to connect train passengers to a parking lot across the tracks.
In a block vote Monday, the council approved several city agreements with RTD and Union Pacific Railroad Co., which agreed to move utilities and an office.
