Colorado State football coach Jim McElwain and Air Force’s Troy Calhoun were among the 20 semifinalists for the Maxwell Football Club Collegiate Coach of the Year Award on Wednesday.

McElwain has led the Rams to a 9-1 record and are ranked No. 22 in the Associated Press media poll and No. 23 in the USA Today coaches’ poll. Calhoun has led the Falcons to an 8-2 record this season.

Other semifinalists include Alabama’s Nick Saban, Arizona’s Rich Rodriguez, Arizona State’s Todd Graham, Baylor’s Art Briles, Duke’s David Cutcliffe, Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher, Georgia’s Mark Richt, Georgia Tech’s Paul Johnson, Kansas State’s Bill Snyder, Marshall’s Doc Holliday, Mississippi’s Hugh Freeze, Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen, Ohio State’s Urban Meyer, Oregon’s Mark Helfrich, TCU’s Gary Patterson, Utah’s Kyle Whittingham, Western Michigan’s P.J. Fleck and Wisconsin’s Gary Andersen.

The semifinal round of voting — by Maxwell Football Club members, NCAA head football coaches, sports information directors and selected national media — for the award runs from Nov. 20 to Dec. 8 to determine the three finalists. The winner will be announced on Dec. 22.
