About a month after announcing they’ve been signed to Warner-owned record label Sire, teenage rock group Residual Kid will return to Denver — a city that they thank for their newfound success. “Since the first time we played in Denver it’s kinda just felt like home,” the band’s bassist Max Redman told Reverb after announcing the signing. After a number of Denver shows, including the Underground Music Showcase, and tours outside of their actual hometown of Austin, Residual Kid will headline the Larimer Lounge on Dec. 5 with openers Bud Bronson and the Goodtimers and Ned Garthe Explosion. As I’ve always said, hip-hop is made by its many characters. There’s the wild-haired, buck-toothed Danny Brown, the huge former chef Action Bronson and there’s also 2 Chainz, the, uhm, what to say about 2 Chainz… Let’s use some of his lyrics to explain his persona: There’s “Versace, cheese on my broccoli” and “the jewelry I got on is matching with the tequila.” He’s ridiculous for the sake of ridiculous. A rising star in the hip-hop world, 2 Chainz is another one of those characters you just have to see in person, and can at Cervantes’ Masterpiece on Dec. 6. ($45-$65, )
