CANON CITY — A Canon City police officer shot a suspect believed to have robbed a police supply store Saturday afternoon after a scuffle during which the suspect stabbed the officer, officials said.
The suspect fled on foot and when an off-duty Canon City patrol officer located a subject matching the description an altercation ensued and the suspect stabbed the officer in the arm, the Canon City police department said in a news release. The officer then shot the suspect in the torso.
Both were taken to St. Thomas More Hospital in Canon City. The suspect was then taken via helicopter to a Colorado Springs hospital, the release said.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has been contacted to help with the investigation.
