A Penrose man is alive, but has temporarily lost the use of his arms after he was shot five times last week by a Cañon City police officer, town officials announced in a Monday news conference.

Hudson Clark, 32, tried to steal a gun from a Cañon City pawn shop on Saturday and threatened store employees with a knife before police found him, Chief Paul Schultz said.

When Corporal Andrew Sanders tried to confront him, Clark lunged at the officer and stabbed Sanders below the left armpit with a 3-inch knife blade, Schultz said. Clark made a motion to stab Sanders again, and was 4-to-6 feet away, when the officer shot Clark five times, twice in the left arm, once in the right arm, once in his abdomen and once in his chest, Schultz said.
