1 Napkin-chewing driver fails sobriety test. A man pulled over for speeding Dec. 20 near South Kipling Parkway and West Florida Avenue in Lakewood had a hard time speaking because police thought he was chewing an entire pack of gum. After failing a sobriety test, the man was asked to spit out the gum, which turned out to be a large napkin. He was charged with three offenses.
2 Abuse, accusations strain 5-month marriage. A man kicked his wife of five months on Dec. 17 in the 2500 block of South Sheridan Boulevard, Lakewood, when she came home late and he accused her of cheating. She told her kids to call the cops on him. They did and he was arrested on domestic violence charges.
3 Loaded handgun found. Officers responding to a call Dec. 16 in the 1800 block of South Alkire Court, Lakewood, told the woman who called to crawl out the window of the bathroom she was hiding in after she disclosed her boyfriend had threatened to shoot her. Police found a loaded 9mm handgun with one round chambered in a kitchen cabinet and a heavily intoxicated man, who admitted to slapping the victim and brandishing the gun. He was arrested on felony menacing and other charges.
4 Officer draws gun on abuser. A police officer responding to a possible fight Dec. 22 in the 1800 block of South Wadsworth Boulevard, Lakewood, kicked down the door after hearing screaming and yelling and drew his service weapon on a man hovering over a kneeling woman. The woman was arrested for drinking in violation of a protection order and the man was arrested for assault and domestic violence.
