ALBUQUERQUE — Back- up guard Sam Logwood scored 15 points on perfect shooting, helping New Mexico hand 24th-ranked Colorado State its first loss of the season, 66-53 on Saturday night.

Logwood made 5-of-5 shots from the field and was 4-for-4 on free throws. Devon Williams added 13 points for New Mexico (10-4, 2-0 Mountain West).

Daniel Bejarano led Colorado State (14-1, 1-1) with 13 points (4-of-13 shooting). He also had 11 rebounds.

The teams traded the lead nine times in the opening 10 minutes before New Mexico created a little separation. But after Colorado State scored five straight to tie it at 25-25, New Mexico closed the first half on a 10-1 run, capped by an off-balance, buzzer-beating 3-pointer from Williams.

The Rams opened the second half with five quick points to trail 35-31. New Mexico used an 18-4 run to take its biggest lead to that point at 55-37 with 9:11 left.

The Lobos did their damage with almost no contribution from their leading scorers. Deshawn Delaney (averaging 14.4 points per game) finished with three points. Hugh Greenwood (11.2) had four points. Greenwood didn’t make a shot until 6:55 remained. By then, the Lobos led 57-42.

Colorado State shot only 32.7 percent from the floor (18-of-55) en route to its fewest points in a game this season.

Rams coach Larry Eustachy entered the game 0-5 against New Mexico, four losses with Colorado State and one loss with Southern Mississippi.

The Lobos had not played a ranked team this season but came into the game 14-8 against ranked opponents since coach Craig Neal arrived as a Lobos assistant in 2007.

Colorado State forward Tiel Daniels, who missed the previous two games because of a calf injury, returned to the starting lineup Saturday but finished with only three points.

New Mexico guard Arthur Edwards, who missed eight games after surgery to repair a dislocated finger, scored four points in his return to the lineup.

Colorado State’s loss ended the best start in program history. The Rams’ next game is Wednesday against archrival Wyoming in Fort Collins.
