A Denver elementary school was placed on “lockout” status for about 20 minutes Tuesday morning after two parents were involved in a parking lot dispute over a handicap space, police said.
The altercation happened outside the Sabin World School after a man confronted a woman parked in a handicap spot about an expired placard.
“He tried to jump on her vehicle as she was pulling away, causing damage to the mirror,” said Christine Downs, a police spokeswoman.
The man, who has not yet been identified, was arrested on suspicion of criminal mischief, disturbing the peace and unlawful acts in or around a school.
Police say the woman was uninjured.
A lockout means a school’s exterior doors are locked and no one is allowed in or out, according to a Denver Public Schools spokesman. Classes continued per normal schedule.
Police say they are continuing to investigate the incident.
