Comedian Ralphie May overindulged on something before his Jan. 15 gig in Grand Junction, Colorado — and some media outlets are reporting that it was the state’s legal marijuana that left May slurring his way through his set and some of his fans angry they didn’t get the show they were promised.
May’s headlining gig on Thursday at the Avalon Theatre in Grand Junction started late — and strange, according to audience members who said May was “slurring his words, not speaking directly into the microphone and leaning on stools on the stage,” according to a .
“He was like a kid in a candy store, being in Colorado for the first time since pot became legal,” a source from May’s camp , pointing toward May’s affinity for cannabis-infused edibles.
The Cannabist reached out to May’s team for a comment on Friday morning. We’ve not heard back from them yet, but sure enough, May had been tweeting about the wonders of legal, store-bought pot early on Thursday morning.

During May’s Grand Junction show on Thursday, 30-40 unhappy fans had gathered in the Avalon’s lobby. Three Grand Junction Police officers walked May “out of his show for his own protection,” according to KJCT.

TMZ posted this video of May being escorted out of the theater. Sure enough, he’s not making a ton of sense as he talks to his fans.
And maybe we shouldn’t be surprised that May had an encounter like this while in Colorado. A few days ago, after on live television, May reached out to the hip-hopper with an offer of shared edibles.
