A man who chased two men down an Aurora street after they robbed his cellular phone on an RTD bus is expected to live after the suspects shot him twice, police say.
The man received non-life-threatening bullet wounds in the confrontation late Friday night and was treated at the University of Colorado Hospital, said Sgt. Chris Amsler, Aurora police spokesman.
The two robbery suspects have not been arrested, and their identities have not been established, Amsler said.
Police have identified the victim only as a 19-year-old man. Amsler said the man’s name is not being released. Following the shooting, the victim was able to speak with police about the crime.
At about 10 p.m. Friday two men robbed the victim at gunpoint on an RTD bus near East 30th Avenue and Worchester Street and immediately climbed off the bus. They began walking down Worchester Street, Amsler said.
The victim jumped off the bus and started running after the two suspects, he said.
“We advise people not to do that,” Amsler said. “We tell them that they should resign themselves to the fact that they are a victim of a violent crime, be a good witness and call us immediately. A cell phone isn’t worth losing your life over.”
The suspects turned and at least one of them fired gunshots, striking the man twice.
“Fortunately he survived the shooting,” Amsler said.
The suspects were described as two black males in their late teens, both about 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8 and thin. One of the suspects was wearing a red hoodie; the other either a green jacket or hoodie.
