Interview with Franklin Mera, president and designer
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I started in this business at a large garden center in Caracas, Venezuela, then Quito, Ecuador, California and Denver at Paulino’s Garden. As my horticulture and designing knowledge grew, I became one of the best designers in Colorado.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: I bring a unique international experience to my designing table. I have 30 years of experience and I’ve been invited to be one of the select few floral designers annually at the Colorado Home and Garden show. I am also a current member of the Floral Association of the Rockies.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: I like the smell and natural beauty of the flowers and the joy I bring to my customers through my colorful tropical arrangements and my beautiful wedding floral designs.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: My biggest challenge is the competition of a small business vs. larger funeral homes that now offer flower arrangements.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: I am a fifth-degree black belt in Goju-ryuūKarate-do. I was a national champion and international champion. I currently offer classes in Northglenn.
