The Thursday morning commute in the metro area, especially on the west side, will be slowed by stretches of roads and highways that are icy, slushy and snow-packed in spots.

The Wednesday evening commute out of Denver was longer than expected for most drivers, afternoon snowfall in the city lasted into the night, making roads extremely icy in spots.

Portions of Kipling Street and Wadsworth Boulevard in Lakewood, Wheat Ridge and Arvada were hampered at times by slide offs, fender benders and multiple car accidents.

Temperatures overnight dropped into single digits in some areas, according to the National Weather Service.

On Thursday morning at about 6 a.m. Denver’s temperature was a frigid 14 degrees.

Drivers should be prepared for the Thursday morning commute to take longer than usual. Side streets remain icy and slushy in wide spread areas.

Denver’s forecast, according to the weather service, calls for sunny skies Thursday with a high temperature near 40 degrees.

Thursday night in the city, skies should be mostly clear and the low temperature will drop to about 21 degrees.

Clouds will be increasing over Denver on Friday, the high temperature should top out at about 48 degrees.
