Interview with Jimmy Nigg, owner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I opened Rockabillies as an owner in 2010 after working as a general manager in the bar/restaurant business for nine years. My experience working in the south inspired me to open a live music venue with great barbecue and comfort food. I always felt like Arvada needed a place like this, so with the help of my family we were able to start Rockabillies.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: Rockabillies is a tribute to the musicians that started what is now know as Rock and Roll. Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash were all pioneers. When their music first hit the airwaves, they called them “rockabillies,” which was in a part a reference to hillbillies.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: I love throwing parties. What makes it all worth it for me is watching people enjoying great food, and great live music. When all the pieces come together, it’s really a lot of fun.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: I think our biggest challenge is getting people in the door for the first time. People might be thrown off by the name Rockabillies. It certainly doesn’t sound like a place where you would expect to have one of the best burgers in Colorado!
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: We never charge a cover for live music or entertainment. We just celebrated our four-year anniversary on Jan. 16 and 17. That’s four years we’ve been able to offer free live entertainment to the local community. We literally couldn’t have done it without our customers.
