ST. PAUL, Minn. — Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie will miss his second consecutive game Saturday night with a hip injury, coach Patrick Roy said after the team’s morning skate at the Xcel Energy Center.
The Avs begin a difficult back-to-back stretch against the Minnesota Wild before playing a late afternoon game Sunday at Winnipeg. The Jets are off Saturday.
Barrie did not participate in the morning skate Saturday but skated on his own after. Roy said he is doubtful for Sunday but his rehabilitation is otherwise “going well.”
Colorado’s lone healthy scratch against the Wild will be defenseman Karl Stollery, who was called up from the minors Friday. Stollery might play Sunday as the Avs look for ways to promote fresh bodies. Roy said he will focus on rolling four lines and three defensive pairings in both games to avoid over-working his top players. The team will depart for Winnipeg immediately after the game and sleep in Sunday morning, with no pregame skate or off-ice workout.
Roy noted that this will be the second back-to-back set that concludes at Winnipeg. On Dec. 5 after playing at Calgary the previous night, the Jets pounded Colorado 6-2 in Winnipeg.
