After winning his third state title last year, Paonia’s Jesse Reed admitted the idea of winning four was on his mind.

On Saturday the senior kept his dream alive at the Pepsi Center, beating Merino freshman Remington Canfield via pinfall 1:07 into the first of their Class 2A 126-pound first round match. Reed (43-0) will face Fowler senior Drew Corsentino in the quarterfinals on Friday.

If Reed wins his fourth title this year, he will be just the 18th wrestler in state history to accomplish the feat. Broomfield’s Phil Downing was the last one to win four, winning the 2014 Class 4A championship at 160 pounds.
