A man arrested on suspicion of defacing a Denver Police Department memorial, dedicated to officers killed in the line of duty, on Saturday has a prior criminal record in Colorado, including an arrest for assaulting a peace officer.

Robert Guerrero, 25, was one of two people arrested for allegedly pouring red paint over a memorial stone during a protest in front of Denver police headquarters downtown.

Guerrero faces felony property damage charges in the case.

In 2009, Guerrero was arrested in an Adams County on suspicion of assault, possession of drug paraphernalia, distributing liquor to a minor, resisting arrest and felony assault on peace officer, according to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records.

All of the charges in the Adams County case, except one, were dropped by the district attorney’s office in 2010. Guerrero was guilty of misdemeanor assault and given a two-year deferred sentence. The case was dismissed in 2012.

Also Saturday was Matthew Goldberg, 23.
