Broomfield schools and community members are banding together to support a school resource officer and his family in the wake of a tragic accident last month in Thornton.

Matthew Montgomery, a Broomfield Police Department school resource officer, was expecting to become the father of a baby girl, but his pregnant wife, Leah, was hit by a car in Thornton on Feb. 18. Their unborn daughter, who they planned to name Carly Marie, did not survive.

Leah Montgomery, who was flown to a Denver hospital, is recovering from serious injuries.

Broomfield Sgt. Brendan Sullivan started a GoFundMe page to help the family pay its medical bills. The campaign aims to collect $20,000.
