Authorities in Arapahoe County have when police say a suspected drunk driver slammed into his vehicle on Friday night.
Omar Cabrera was killed when a person driving a Chevrolet Silverado drove through a red light and hit the Subaru Cabrera was driving, Aurora police and the county coroner’s office said.
Cabrera died of a blunt-force head injury, the coroner’s office said.
Aurora detectives are investigating whether the driver of the pickup truck was intoxicated, according to a news release issued after the crash.
The driver of the Chevrolet received only minor injuries, according to police.
“Alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in the crash,” the release said.
A preliminary police investigation showed the Subaru was heading north on South Blackhawk Street at about 8:30 p.m. and made a left turn onto westbound East Iliff Avenue. The driver of the Chevrolet ran a red light on westbound East Iliff Avenue and “T-boned” the Subaru, police said.
Cabrera was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arriving there.
Police have not released the identity of the Chevrolet driver.
