A Jefferson County jury convicted a Lakewood man of sexually assaulting two girls and one boy who were related to him over a four-year span.

Richard Threlkeld, 68, often took care of two girls, who were 7 and 10 when the assaults began, and a then 8-year-old boy, according to a news release Wednesday by the Jefferson County District Attorney.

The children, who were relatives of Threlkeld, were sexually assaulted numerous times, including being coerced into performing oral sex on Threlkeld, the release said.

The assaults took place at Threlkeld’s house in Lakewood and in his camper in Monument.

“He would frequently take the kids camping during the summer,” the release said.

The jury deliberated for four hours before returning their guilty verdicts Monday. All three children testified at the trial.

His sentencing is set for May 7.
