Grandview sophomore Michaela Onyenwere was named Thursday the Gatorade Colorado girls basketball player of the year.

The 5-foot-11 guard/forward averaged 23.7 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.9 steals and 1.3 blocks, helping the Wolves to a 20-5 record. Grandview lost in the third round of the state tournament, falling 86-83 to Lakewood. Onyenwere scored 43 points and pulled down 29 rebounds.

“She transforms our team and makes everyone better as a result of her ability,” Grandview coach Josh Ulitzky said in a release. “Her athleticism is the thing that sets her apart from other players.”

She has a 3.57 grade-point average and was named to the Denver Post All-Colorado team in 2014.
