LONGMONT — Longmont police described a “gruesome” scene inside a Pratt Street home, where they say a man stabbed both his parents, killing his father and severely injuring his mother, before fatally stabbing himself late Tuesday.
Cmdr. Jeff Satur said police responded to 1433 Pratt St. just before 11 p.m. They found the suspect’s gravely wounded 58-year-old mother across the street from the house.
She remained hospitalized Wednesday in critical condition, but she is expected to make a full recovery.
Satur said police saw the 34-year-old suspect, later identified as Epifanio Martinez, inside the home and immediately called for the SWAT team, which eventually used explosives to breach the front door of the home.
