Rockies owner Dick Monfort will buy the Macaroni Grill chain of restaurants for $8 million, , taking over the fledgling franchise with a small group of investors known as Redrock Partners.

At $8 million, Monfort is paying an amazingly low price for Macaroni Grill. There are 146 restaurants in the chain. That’s a little less than $55,000 per location. The previous owner, the Ignite Restaurant Group, paid $55 million for the franchise less than two years ago.

And, for context, Darden Restaurants Inc. last year. Macaroni Grill was valued at $164 million in 2008.

What does this have to do with baseball? The Rockies in November declined a team-option second year on pitcher Brett Anderson’s contract. They instead paid him a $1.5 million buyout. He went on to , with $4 million in potential incentives.

Monfort’s Redrock group and his ownership stake in the Rockies are not related. But if you look at it simplified and on the same ledger sheet, he traded Brett Anderson for Macaroni Grill.
