A woman whose unborn child was cut from her womb said in a post Wednesday morning that she doesn’t know where she would be without the public’s well wishes and support.
“I want to tell people that I have read every single card sent in the mail, every note on the GoFundMe page and give thanks to every name I see contributing monetary funds to my recovery,” Michelle Wilkins, 26, said in a note on a formed for her. “Without your prayers and well wishes lifting me up, I don’t know where I’d be.”
Authorities say Wilkins’ unborn child — whom she planned to name Aurora — was removed by 34-year-old Dynel Lane on March 18 in a gruesome, pre-meditated crime. Lane has been , including first-degree unlawful termination of pregnancy.
Lane is being held at the Boulder County jail . She is due in court for a preliminary hearing on May 5.
Authorities say Lane lured Wilkins to her home over Craiglist for what was supposed to be the sale of baby clothes.
“I am constantly in awe of the generosity of spirit of this community,” Wilkins wrote in her post.
Wilkins said the attack has left “all of us suffering” and recognized how what happened to her “sent shock waves through the community.”
“My heart is full of gratitude that words can never convey,” she wrote. “Thank you.”
Wilkins has to express her gratitude to supports. Last week she posted a photograph on Facebook posing with a police officer who first arrived to help her as she lay critically injured in Lane’s basement.
