The Denver city official who has been indicted for bribery is dropping his bid to become an Aurora city councilman.
Larry Lee Stevenson, 45, a supervisor in the city of Denver’s excise and licensing department, allegedly .
Stevenson, who was the the best man at Denver Mayor Michael Hancock’s wedding, has been placed on investigatory leave from his city job, officials said.
Reached by phone Tuesday, Stevenson declined to comment on his bid for the Ward VI seat on the Aurora City Council, referring any comments to his lawyer, Gary Lozow.
Lozow said his client is focused on other things now.
“His energy now is robustly defending these accusations,” Lozow said. “He had decided not to run in the aura of this investigation.”
Stevenson was one of several candidates seeking the council seat that is now held by Bob Broom, who is term limited. Aurora’s election is in November, and Stevenson had filed paperwork on his intent to run and needed to gather signatures on a petition to make it official.
