LONGMONT — Police this month were able to stop the delivery of $10,000 that a 90-year-old woman tried to send to a man in Texas as part of a scam.

A police report said that the woman already sent about $24,000 beginning in March, but police notified the Postal Service of the latest payment, which was intercepted by postal inspectors and returned to Colorado.

Postal Inspector Pamela Durkee said her office tries to educate people about scams and will work with family members if a person continues to send out money under suspicious circumstances.

Police had become concerned that the woman would not be able to pay her rent at the assisted-living facility where she lives if she kept mailing out her money, the report said.
