About 30 people gathered Friday afternoon on Lincoln Street in a Workers Day demonstration.

Standing on the sidewalk just outside the State Capitol, the Denver rally, as was the case in other locations across the country, was about more than employment rights. There were also signs and chants related to the deaths of Freddie Gray in Baltimore and Walter Scott in South Carolina.

There was not much of a police presence at the demonstration, just five members of the Colorado State Patrol standing watch.

At one point, a few of the protesters walked up the Capitol steps, waving flags and chanting anti-law enforcement slogans.

“If people could just understand basic human empathy for what’s happing all across this country, (the protests) wouldn’t be so troubling to them,” said Tyler, one of the protesters.
