CBS made it official today: the superhero drama, “Supergirl” got the official pickup, with Colorado’s Melissa Benoist set to play Superman’s 24-year-old super-powered relative.
The (“Glee,” “Whiplash”) now has a firm series commitment for the DC Comics adaptation, to air in the 2015-16 season.
The cast includes “Ally McBeal” vet Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Kara’s boss, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers, Kara’s older foster sister and David Harewood as Hank Henshaw, a former CIA agent and now the head of Department of Extra-Normal Operations.
The series, from Greg Berlanti’s production company in association with Warner Bros. Television, focuses on Kara Zor-El (Benoist), who escaped Krypton at the time of its destruction years ago, and has been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin, Superman, since arriving on Earth. Now she’s ready to acknowledge them.
